Types Of Tense :-
Tenses are very important in language. Tenses in English are used to indicate the time of an action or event. There are three main types of tense: Present, Past, and Future. Each of these is further divided into four aspects: Simple, Continuous, Perfect, and Perfect Continuous.
1) Present Tense :-
• Simple Present :
Describes habitual actions, general truths, or states.
Example: She writes a letter.
• Present Continuous (Progressive):
Describes actions happening at the moment of speaking.
Example: She is writing a letter now.
•Present Perfect:
Describes actions that occurred at an unspecified time in the past, with relevance to the present.
Example: She has written a letter.
• Present Perfect Continuous:
Describes actions that began in the past and continue into the present.
Example:
She has been writing a letter for hours.
2) Past Tense -
• Simple Past:
Describes completed actions in the past.
Example:
She wrote a letter yesterday.
• Past Continuous (Progressive):
Describes actions that were ongoing in the past.
Example:
She was writing when I came.
• Past Perfect:
Describes actions that were completed before another past action.
Example:
She had written the letter before I arrived.
• Past Perfect Continuous:
Describes actions that were ongoing in the past and continued up to a certain point.
Example:
She had been writing for an hour when I arrived.
3) Future Tense:-
• Simple Future :
Describes actions that will happen in the future.
Example:
She will write a letter tomorrow.
•Future Continuous(Progressive):
Describes actions that will be ongoing at a specific future time.
Example:
She will be writing a letter.
• Future Perfect:
Describes actions that will be completed before a certain time in the future.
Example: She will have written the letter by noon.
• Future Perfect Continuous:
Describes actions that will be ongoing in the future until a specified time.
Example:
She will have been writing for two hours.
These are the basic types of tense used in English to express when actions take place and their duration or completion.
